After a long Northeast winter, May marked the official return of skydiving season at Skydive Saratoga. We got back in the air, welcomed new and returning jumpers, and started filling the skies over Saratoga again. While spring weather gave us a few curveballs along the way, seeing smiling faces back at the drop zone made it all worth it.
What Happened in May

Yes, we were flying in May. But if you were around this month, you probably noticed that spring weather in upstate New York likes to keep things interesting.
A few days throughout the month, we did get weathered out due to unsafe flying conditions. It’s never the outcome we want, but safety will always be our top priority.

Skydiving is governed by the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) and requires strict adherence to VFR (Visual Flight Rules). If conditions are not safe for skydiving, we will not fly.
Unsafe conditions may include:
- High winds (generally over 20 mph)
- Gusting winds
- Thick or low cloud coverage
- Rain
Only Skydive Saratoga’s experienced flying crew determines if weather conditions are safe enough to jump.

A few important reminders for anyone booking this season:
- Don’t stress too much about weather forecasts more than 24 hours out, they change constantly.
- If your jump needs to be rescheduled due to weather, your deposit remains valid for 2 years.
- Gift certificates remain valid for 5 years from purchase.
- Reschedule notifications are sent via text message when possible within 24 hours of your reservation.
- If you don’t hear from us, we’re planning to jump.
And yes, sometimes weather can still move in after you arrive at the drop zone. We know it can be frustrating, but if we stop flying, it’s because conditions are no longer safe.

The upside? When those Saratoga skies open up, they are absolutely worth the wait.

“Just had my first jump with Brock and I can say that from start to finish this was an incredible experience. The staff was friendly and entertaining and answered all my questions honestly and put my mind at ease. The weather couldn’t have been more perfect and the serenity felt flying through the air was next level. This was an experience like no other and I know I’m going to have to do it again!”

The Season Is Just Getting Started
May reminded us of something we already know well around here: skydiving season in the Northeast always keeps you humble. One day it’s blue skies and sunset loads — the next day the clouds roll in.
But through every weather hold, reschedule, and cleared-up afternoon, one thing stays the same: the feeling people leave with after stepping out of that airplane.
We’re excited for the months ahead and can’t wait to keep making memories with all of you this season.
